nt4sell Oct 1st, 04, 11:23 AM ok i found the interior color 760 black and the paint d-d grotto blue met. but what does the rest stand for?
gigem Oct 1st, 04, 1:32 PM 03D is the build date. March 1968, 4th week.
68 = 1968
13427 = Chevelle 300 Deluxe, 2 door Pillar coupe, V8 engine.
KAN = Kansas assembly plant
D = Grotto Blue metallic paint, top and bottom.
nt4sell Oct 1st, 04, 4:05 PM are you positive about the v8. the vin says 13327 i thought that was a 6 cylinder. It had a 230 straight six in it, I dont see why some one would replace a v8 with a 6 cyl.
elcamino Oct 1st, 04, 5:32 PM You can't use the body tag on anything but a SS model 138xx to determine the engine. Chevrolet had a habit of coding the 6 and 6 cyl cars with the same style number for many years.
The VIN is the only way to know for sure, if the 3rd digits is a 3,5 or 7 then the base engine was a 6. A 4,6 or 8 shows a V8.
DaleM Oct 1st, 04, 6:18 PM The body tag was suppose to alert the body shop as to what trim level emblems and mouldings to put on the car...didn't always work out that way. As stated, the VIN tells you what type (L6 vs. V8) engine was to be installed. The body tag told the various shops what trim to install. Since the 66-68 SS was a separate model (again, different trim) and there was only one cubic inch size engine available (the 396), SS body tags will match the VIN on the 138x7 number.
shooter Oct 1st, 04, 9:49 PM It also came with an Oldsmobile interior. 910 is the Olds code for black bench seat.
The car was built when a shortage of Chevy interiors caused both Buick and Olds interiors to be used for a few months.

nt4sell Oct 4th, 04, 10:11 AM heh thats why ive never seen any bench seats that match mine. o well it has chevelle seats now.
DaleM Oct 5th, 04, 8:25 AM If you still have the Olds seats, I'd keep 'em. Dare to be different - and original.
nt4sell Oct 5th, 04, 1:58 PM they were badly damaged, all the seems had split and the cord around the edges had been ripped off.my car has never been redone, i think a few windows and the carpet were the only things replaced and that was recent because i found the reciept in the trunk.
