Hello,
I posted a few questions a month or so back and you guys really helped me and I appreciated it.
Im getting ready to go look at a 1969 Chevelle SS and I wanted to see if you guys could give me the break down on the Vin #.
My question is this a factory optioned 1969 Chevelle SS with this Vin. 136379K368022.
I can also send some photos of the car.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me again. smile.gif

The VIN will only tell you the series (e.g., 13637 is a Chevrolet [1] Malibu, Custom El Camino, 8-cylinder [36], 2-dr hardtop [37]), the model year (9), the final assembly plant (K ~ Kansas City), and the assembly sequence number (368022).
Nothing in a Chevelle VIN will indicate the engine size (except whether it's a L6 or V8) until 1972 when the engine size and horsepower was coded into the VIN. The other exceptions are the 66 through 68 SS models (138xx); those came with the 396 as the base engine so any 66 through 68 SS series has a 396.
The trim tag (Fisher Body Plate) won't tell you anything either UNLESS it has a 72 (Monaco/Huggar Orange) or 76 (Daytona Yellow) paint code. Those two colors were only offered with the SS option in 1969.
Thanks guys.
Im going to look at the car tomorrow and I neeed all the help I can get . The person has sent me 20pic's and told me its an original SS car. If there is anyone in the Ohio area that could help me identify this vehicle as a true SS I would be willing to pay them. If there is a company that does this I would be glad to retain them to help me make sure Im buying the real thing.
This board is great and thanks again for helping a Chevelle SS newbie soon to be. I hope. smile.gif

Eric,
There is no person or company who can do what you're hoping for. Unless the seller has some documentable owner history or specific paperwork documentation on the car, the best you'll be able to do is assume that it's a real SS.
