i need a forward engine harness for my 70 chevelle but the problem is that i purchased an ss dash complete with gauges from e-bay so i dont know if i should purchase the auto harness or the 4 speed harness. what would be the difference?

You mean the light harness or the engine harness? If engine harness, makes a difference, I know the 2 i have put on I had to have the kickdown for my turbo 400, i would think a 4 speed harness would be different. Then there is non a/c or an a/c car, lots of factors. I believe the light harness is the same, with gauges. It has the temp sensor connector on that harness. I hope others will chime in.

i believe i need the engine harness. gu offers the harness in auto and 4speed. no mention of ac or non ac.the harness for the dash is complete just trying to match the engine harness to it.

70 the a/c harness was by its self.

after searching the subject i may be better off with a harness from M&H which has the HEI wire built in.
i am now wondering if this harness will support a 1 wire alt given that i have orig ss gauges in the dash?i have read that a 1 wire alt will not work with warning lights.
any help on which way to go on this would be appreciated.

M&H is pretty good at sorting things out. Why not give them a call, tell them what you've got and see what they can put together for you.

What engine and trans do you have?

engine is a 396 and the trans is a tremec 5 speed.

I believe I have a complete harness out of a 69 or 70 GTO.Would that work?

The difference is the location and connection type used for TCS and the kick down solenoid connection. Either harness will work because you won't need TCS or kick down circuits. It is necessary to get it for a big block.
