I'm looking at a small block with its engine ID number located on the front pad by the head.
I'm being told it is F051G F.
I've seen picture, but I can't really make out if its correct.
Guy says its either '65 Corvette or Chevelle.
The casting # is 3849852 with a date code of E85. Leads me to believe its a '57 - '66 283. I thought it was '65 283 chevelle, but the F at the end is throwing me off. Should be either A or M.
Anyone have any ideas what this engine is out of?
Thanks in advance.

E85 = May 8th '65 casting date

Verify the ID stamp is not F051_ GF
F=Flint engine plant
051_ = May+ day(date is 4 digits)

GF= for 65 model year is Impala 283/195 2bl

One other thing, the heads have no accesory mounting holes. This leads me to believe that either heads were changed, or the ID # is off. He stated that they are fuelie camel hump heads.
Looking at his pictures, I'm not sure this is even true. The side of head has rectangle with one point in the middle.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again, Chris

Early SBC heads had no accessory holes!
