So would my Alt have a 70 or 71 build date? Your alternator (and everything else) would have had to be built before the car. 1971 VINs started with serial number 100001 and I'd bet yours is a very low number. The earliest built date for a 71 I have is a LA car dated 8-11 with a serial number of 100013. Redmanf1 Sep 23rd, 04, 11:48 PM Dale, That is what I thought. I have a '71 SS454 that was built second week of September, 1970 (9B on cowl tag). You can confirm this by a high or low vin#. If your vin# is very low you know it's an early car, if its very high, it should be a late car. I'm not sure what the cutoff was for each model year, but I'm sure they were producing the next year model cars by September; I know in my case they were. elcamino Sep 24th, 04, 10:00 AM Without a doubt built first week in Sept of 1970. | ||
