I was wondering if someone could help me with my cowl tag.I have a 69 300 deluxe post car built at the Kansas City plant.Model #13427.I understand the whole cowl tag except for the last line it reads 12c (which i know that means it was built in December of the third week)follwed by 01254 (which i know has something to do with the build sheet} but after that it reads XL .I have seen some examples of 69 cars produced at this plant and they all just have an L i have never seen one with an XL . Any explanations?

No one really knows what these letters stand for.
Can you provide more info about the car? Like what equipment does it have, SS ? etc.
Some believe the L shows up always on SS cars but I have seen an L on a junk yard car that was not a SS. Most cars that survive are SS cars so that may be why they assume its denotes a SS car but there is no known documentation from KC that provides any answers. I may have nothing to do whatsoever about the car and more to do with how the GMAD plant at Kansas City (Leeds) operated?
No X though, but I have seen LB, L, Z and B on 1971 and 72 models.

The car is a 300 deluxe ss post car.I have know the past two owners.I am pretty sure it is an original ss 4 speed car.I have no idea what engine it had originally though.Everyone has told me that ss post cars could of had any of the big block engines. This mystery could be solved with a build sheet but no luck.Does anyone know of a service of tracking a vehicles vin number?Would the DMV do this? The car has been in the Chicago area for its entire life.It was originally frost green code59.Does anyone rember seeing a frost green post car on the nw side of Chicago back in the day?Who knows maybe the original owner is still allive?

I had a frost green 69 SS 2-dr post (http://www.dalesplace.com/images/gallery/69/69ss.jpg) back in 1970 but it was a TH400 (396/325hp). If I'd only known it'd be such a relatively rare optioned car, I'd have tried to hold on to it. :(
