A friend picked up a 69 and we got around to finally looking at the rear shock set up.
Unlike the normal angled shocks on the rear this car had completely vertical shock mounts welded to the axle housing. It has 5 holes for adjustment and has a coil over spring. It also has the old style ladder traction bars.
Sitting on the ground the coil is under load but on a lift the springs are not under load. I cannot see far enough up top to see how it is mounted.
We can make out the shock inside is a Gabriel Red Ryder gas unit.
The car is lowered all the way around and actually handles and drives great.
He wants to replace the rear shocks but it appears that there is an eylet on the top just like the bottom of the shock. Could this be ?
I have some pictures by don't know how to post them. If interested my email is: dnmcduffie@yahoo.com for pictures.
Any help on what shock replacement to use is appreciated.
Thanks.
