View Full Version : 2" Spindle drop question?

I lowered my 69 using a set of 2" lowering spindles, these are the new type that use the OE brakes, "A" arms and steering arms.
They fit OK, the only part I could not use was the dust shields.
Now for the problem, I notice when I back into a parking spot the camber changes ?
The tires are noticeably in at the top and the car gets lower ?
This only happens when I backup, if I stop going forward the camber is actually going the other direction?
All parts are new in the front end, polyurethane bushings, new rod ends ect....
I havent had the front end aligned yet, although I will soon .
It was aligned before I started this swap and In my mind all these do is raise the wheels up 2". (although I'm sure that's not correct)
I'm just trying to figure out what could cause something like this?
The car tracks and stops straight, could it be the tow?
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I have had a lot of lowered car with the same issue you are having. I always had my cars to the front end alignment shop right after I lowered them. I think that if you have a front end alignment it will take most of what your talking about out of it.

My Chevelle is down 3 1/2" in the front (with 2" lowering spindles and lowering springs) my tires are in at the top a little bit but, I know I need a new alignment and I hope that will get most of that out of it.

You have to cut the dust shields for them to fit.

As for the tire angle, I think it has to do with the way the weight is distributed when you're going one directon vs. the other, mine does the same thing, although I haven't gotten my car aligned.

Thanks for the replies:
I will be getting an alignment soon so we will see if that helps, I was just curious as to weather someone here would know what the problem is?
I didn't see any way to cut the dust shield and have anything left to put on the car?

I just drove mine down the road and my dust shields are dragging all over the rotors :(

I am just going to yank mine off this week. I cut them to make them fit, but they get pinched between the end of the lower control arm and the rotor. Making a big mess. (this is with 2 inch drop spindles)
I also put stock car springs and adjusters in so it sits pretty low.

CPP has a template that tells you what to cut, that's what I used, I have the SSBC 2" drop spindles and their instructions BLOW!!!
USing the CPP instructions I was able to cut the dust shield and it fit perfectly with no rubbing of any kind.

HEre's the link to the CPP PDF. http://www.classicperform.com/Instructions/PDF/30100.pdf

Yea it's pretty lame with what's left over but something is better than nothing, these things are really needed but I just wanted to put them on.
