I have recently bought a 70' Chevelle and was looking over the car to see what all worked and was all satisfied untill I pushed the parking brake into place...and found out that the release handle was not connected inside the assembly. Is there any way to manually release the brake so I can get the car rolling again.
Thanks:

On my '67, you can see that catch but I am not sure you could get anything in there to push it out. I think the '68-'72 models are even worse in this regard. The easiest thing to do is crawl under the car and loosen the two nuts connecting the front cable to the center cable (it'll be right under the driver seat just behind the trans crossmember).
Did you happen to check to see that the parking brake actually engaged? If the front cable is not attached to the center cable, there is no spring to release the pedal after it is pushed in. You'll pull the release handle and nothing happens. I'd bet that over half of the Chevelles I got into when I was shopping for mine had the front cable installed, but no rear cables in place. Hence, I'd push the parking brake in but it would not release.

you can reach up there where the release rod connects and pull it to release the brake
