I have a 1970 Chevelle malibu it came with a 307 and a 400 powerglide and a/c but the odd thing i found is on my radeator support. On the very bottom of the support there is a stamp made into the metal that says elen or elan cant remember but is this something important to its history because i have heard storys of workers putting their stamp on cars any idea also the car was built in alanta gorgia if it helps.
ps i was lucky i found my build sheet in my door panel. :D

I have a 70 Chevelle Malibu built in Arlington, TX. Not sure about the stamping.
I'm confused about the tranny. I don't THINK any 307 cars came with a 400 Turbo transmission, which is a 3-speed. I could be wrong.
You also say Powerglide. That's a 2-speed tranny, which I don't think was offered in 1970.
How many forward gears does the car have? I would bet you have a 350 Turbo, but you can never tell till you dig.
Keep us posted. Oh yeah....lucky bastard on the buildsheet. It should tell you what tranny it came with if the sheet is legible.

Have no idea about the stamp. If you can take a photo of it and post it, maybe we can figure something out. That said, many parts of the cars have some kind of stamp to ID the source and production dates etc, that may be what it is.
As for 400 power-glide, there is not such thing.
The power-glide is a 2 sp trans and was the an optional trans on 307 and 350 engines with the 3 sp manual as standard. The 3 sp TH-350 trans was optional on the small blocks.

my build sheet says my trans was a TZ what ever that means it also says at the botom m35 p/g trans.
I called it a 400 because the pan is square with no cut in on corner thats what i was told by a friend to identify them
ps im also a lucky bastard because i got my hands on a numbers matching texas car with original paint still on it o ya it a 1957 chevy pink 4 door station wagon

Your friend was wrong so now you can educate him a little smile.gif . A TH400 trans has an irregular shaped pan. The powerglide has the square pan. All of the 70 radiator supports have elan stamped on them. The 69's do as well.

I think you're looking in the wrong place to determine the trans type. Look at the list of options and not the codes in the blocks. A Powerglide would show as M35, a TH350 would be M38 and the TH400 would is M40.
