How do I determine the value of my Chevelle? More specificlly Some idiot trashed my car (custom paint,new exhaust, new brakes, rebuilt 327, 4 barrell ..etc...) and now six months later their asking for an estimate of damage. An estimate was never done before or after the accident--the car was towed and junked. I have pictures before and after of course...Any suggestions?

start at 25,000 and work your way down. The more you get the better.

I would get Hemmings over the last few years, look for cars similar to the one you had. Make a spreadsheet of the asking prices. Call the sellers, explain your situation to see if they will share the actual sales price info. This approach is similar to a real estate comp. The hardest part will be proving that your car was similar to the ones sold.
