I have noticed on some different TH400 trannys that where the alluminum tag is that is riveted to the pass side of the housing that there are different colors that seem to be silk screened onto the tag. The 72 TH400 trans that is in my car now had yellow background on it while a 70 TH400 tranny, that I will be putting in to replace the 72, has a black background. On Dales Chevellestuff.com, in the 69 Section under misc. he has a picture of the trans tag from a 1969 trans. That 69 tag is the exact color of the one that is on my 72 trans. What I am wondering is, did they use different colors for different years? Did the different colors stand for a different coding (ex. CD vs. CF)? These different colors have puzzled me as to why they are like that.
