Someone please assist to determine the decoding of the following information I took off the passenger's side engine front pad area. VO2O7EB The car is a 1967 El Camino Custom and the VIN # is 136807Z129720. I am trying to find out if the engine is the same one that came from the factory in the car when the car was built. Basically, I want to know if its a number's matching engine or not. Thanks! John

Well, the EB is for a 300HP 327 from Flint plant made on Feb 07 originally in a '65 Chevelle. The VIN shows an 8 cylinder El Camino Custom made in Fremont, CA.

EB was actually used in 65, 66, and 67.

1965 ~ 3/4-spd, High Perf, AFB Carb, 300hp L74
1966 ~ 3/4-spd, A.I.R., 4-V carb, 275hp L30
1967 ~ 3/4-spd, A.I.R., 275hp L30

Since the engine was assembled Feb 07, the body plate date should be prior to that anywhere from 1 to 4 or 5 weeks (01A, B, C, etc). The sequence number 129720 could be that early in the model run at Fremont. Still could be the original engine if it was built after the body and your Elky is a factory manual trans. Some plants stamped the VIN on this pad as well and some did not - it wasn't law until 1968. Check for any casting numbers on the block and heads then check them out at http://www.mortec.com
