All the steering wheels are (I think) made of bakelite anyways, so they have to be painted. I redid mine, and just painted it with good paint, and it looks killer. I did clear it and sand/clear a few times, and it looks better than new. I suggest you do the same, you dont need to buy another.

What Brad says worked for me.
I painted a '67 Ranchero wheel from brown to a bright blue pearl (body color) about six years ago. Although not a daily driver, it still looks great today.
I used base/clear with more clear than normal, figuring it would wear, but I think this was overkill.
I would think that you wouldn't need to use base/clear since you're going black.
Good luck. Ron.

Oven cleaner will strip the old paint off with the help of a scotchbrite pad. I would then wash with dawn, dry in sun . Once dry spray it with bulldog adhesion promoter and then spray it with SEM Landau Black. Sand and re apply color as needed. Let it dry and you should be good to go. I did this with a green wheel and dyed it red. Hasn't faded or peeled at all in the Tucson sun. Hope this helps. Justin
