Could anyone tell me what & where to look in determining if the engine in my vehicle is the original or as they say...a "NUMBERS MATCHING" engine? Like location on the engine & is there other area's that have to match up togeather? And thanks for the help....

On the pad just foward of the right cyl head on some engines has the last six digits of the vin.

Like Dawg said, on the pad in front of the right (pass) cyl. head. There should be 2 sets of numbers there. One is the build date/application code, and the other is a partial VIN from the car it was originally installed in. Sometimes the VIN is also found near the oil filter boss. If this matches the VIN on your car, it is original.

Depends on the year of the car and where it was built, you don't say in your post. Stamping the partial VIN was not mandated by law until 1968. Some plants for some years did this before 1968, some did not. Example, my 67 Fremont-built El Camino does not have the partial VIN stamped here.
There will, however, be the engine ID code - something like T1025EC. This tells the engine plant (Tonawanda), assembly date (Oct 25) and engine size/hp/trans type (EC is a 327/275hp w/PG in 1966, 1967, and 1968; 327/350hp w/manual in 65). Most suffix codes were only used one year though so it will help identify if it's a Chevelle engine and maybe the year as well as the month/day. If you can post this info, someone will help you decipher it or you can check my ChevelleStuff website at http://www.chevellestuff.com
Hello again everyone.....I got the #'s off the pad of the engine and here they are: V0207EB - VIN #136807Z129720. If anyone can decode this for me and help me desifer whether this engine in my '67 Elky is original or not I would gratefullly appreciate it! Thanks again and have a great day! ~ JL
