I have a VO4TIHC code with a 3892657 casting and a C307 date code in a 1967 Malibu. The casting code shows 1967 327, but the vin code doesn't make sense. Can any one tell me what I have?

My Engine Rebuilders guide shows that block being used form 1962-67. The HC suffix shows a 65 327 are you sure it isn't "EC" ?? Does the rest of the engine number match the vehicle vin ?

That's not a VIN code but rather the assembly location, date, and engine suffix id. I don't have anything but Chevelle suffix codes and this isn't a Chevelle engine but HC looks like a full-size Chevy code and the V is Flint, MI I believe. Hopefully shooter/b or elcamino will come along shortly, they have other Chevrolet codes.

VO4TIHC

Take another look at this, its not right

The T is in the date field, should be MMDD
I and 1 (one) have same meaning, 1 (one).

Now assuming the HC is correct and this is a 327 block as BillK notes then the only application I find are Impala 327 engines from 1965 (250hp); 1967 (275hp); 1968 (275hp) all used with a power-glide trans in the full size cars. All had 4-bbl carbs and are known as RPO L30.

Thats my problem, the no# doesn't make sense. The heads and intake are correct for a 1967 327, but the TI doesn't work. The no# looks original, but who knows.
