What info about the car and engine can be brought to light from vin pad stamping and block casting. Will it tell if the engine has 2 bolt or 4 bolt main caps? and what else? The block casting is #3916323 serial # T08151V and vin # 13J204675. Thanks !!

Well, the "IV" suffix is for a 325HP 396 with TH transmission, if that helps, I'm thinking this DOESN'T "help" since evidently someone told you its a 375HP engine. The casting # is for a '68 396, 2 or 4 bolt main.

Are you saying that this IV code for sure means that this is not an original 375hp engine ?

Yes IV is only used for an Impala 396/325hp 65-68
The partial vin should be 18J+
1=Chevrolet
8=68 model year
J=Janesville,OH plant (Impala plant)
+=car sequence number
Impala only offered the 396/325, the upgrade engine was the 427.
You can verify the IV code here

Edit:Janesville OH? ...oops..so much for going from memory.. smile.gif

I have an original 67 Impala SS with a 396/325 and its an IV, the protect o plate verifies this also.
