I have a 1968 chevelle. Previous owner changed the interior. I am about to buy a front bench seat and rear seat that are from a 1971 chevelle in an effort to return the 68 to the original features.
will they interchange ?
I know common sense says they should, but the 68 appears to be a smaller car than the 70-72 body style. Help is appreciated. Thanks.

I believe the only difference in the seats is the location of the release button (68 on side, 71 on back) and of course the seat covers. Other than that they are the same.

Yes they will fit. The styling will be a little different. However you could recover and make them 95% correct. I don't think 68's had headrests ( at least they were an option )and all 71's had them. Not sure about the seat back release. On buckets they are in different locations. Bench seats might be different.

The back seat from the 71 will not work in the 68..went through this on my 72 ...the seat in the 68-69 goes from qtr. to qtr..the 70-72 seat is not as wide and has a filler piece between seat and qtr. on each side..

What Keith said is true. The only rear seat that will fit is a '68 or '69 of the same body style, i.e. coupe or convertible. I'm not sure about whether a 2 door and 4 door rear seat are the same.
The front seat will work. You could buy '68 covers to put on your seats to make them look original.

Not sure if 68-69 4dr. seats are the same as a 2dr...but I do know 70-72 4dr seats will not work on a 70-72 2dr.I am talking about the rear seat only.

I am primarily interested in the front bench seat. great distinction about the back seat. I have always noticed the filler panel in my 70, but never put 2 and 2 together.
