Ive got a 67 and I can't find what year my axle is from. My Chevy by the numbers book only goes to 1969.

The numbers cast on the center section are 3859140N. Any help with this one???

The numbers stamped on the axle are CD 0721 B with an E under it. I believe this number is 3.07 posi built July 21st in Buffalo with an Eaton posi.

I have not measured the width because I do not have any help, but the springs are bolted to the axly with one bolt each.

Does this mean I have to buy springs for a different year car to make them work on my 67? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that casting number is for a 65 but check the casting date to be sure. Next to the cover opening is a small "raised" code. Letter for month and numbers for day and last digit of year. (Example G194 July 19th '64)
Here is a photo link of a code

You need to re-use your 67 springs to match your 67 frame. The top of a 64-66 spring is a full diameter coil will not fit the top pocket correctly. Just bolt the bottom of the 67 spring to the flat plate as was done 64-66 using the HD bolt, washers and special clamp.

3859140N is a 1965 number, possibly a very early 1966 IF they carried over. 1966 was casting number 3857745N.

OK I looked at the casting code as you guys pointed out and it appears to be on a three digit code not a four like the example you gave me.

I believe it reads G35 or G85. Does this decode as a July 65 12 bolt? So is this the same width as a 67 rear end or is it different?

Yes that is July '65. It is the same width as a 67. It is the 68-72 that is 1" wider.
