I am going to convert my manual steering setup on my 71 to power. I will be using a Grand Cherokee or Camaro setup. I was wondering if I took the entire system off (pump, lines, gear) would that work on my chevelle? (I know that I need a rag joint and pitman arm also) I have a small block and wanted to know if what brackets i would need if I used a pump off of a jeep or camaro?

Thanks

with either steering box you will need the chevelle PS pitman arm, not sure what camaro box you would be considering? I would stick with the jeep box since it has the correct travel and steering stops. You can use a chevy SB pump and brackets that match up with whatever front drive system you are using. You will need the adapter rag joint, and you can either use a flare adapter at the box to use the standard style pressure PS line or replace the fitting on the PS pump with a later piece and use a newer style oring type PS pressure line. Return line is just a rubber hose from the box to the pump and you can use the Jeep steel line stub to make it work.

What I am really wanting to do is take the jeep box, lines, and pump off of a jeep. That way the lines, pump, and gear work together with no modification. But I'm sure that I will need a bracket for the pump to go on my SBC and I may need a new pully also. This is what I am wondering.

IMO it isnt worth the hassle, you can make it look factory with the chevy parts and jeep steering box. I have a grand cherokee with the I6 and the PS pump is very different than a SB chevy pump, it is a small one like used on an LT1.
