Is there anyway to get a build sheet made for a car. Maybe like you could contact GM and give them your vin # and they send a build sheet or anything like that? Im looking for a Chevelle and a Camaro that I have. Please Help. :(

What car?
what year?
Built where?
If it is a 64 -72 USA built Chevelle, the answer is NO

GM in the U.S. says they have no records as such. GM of Canada will send you a typed page about your car IF it was built in Canada, which is not the case here.
Rumor has it that someone found out that all of GMs records didn't get destroyed and is trying to collect the data. If, big IF, that's the case, it'll probably be in the same typed/printed format and not a build sheet as such.
Build sheets were not meant to be left in the car but rather trashed when the car was done. It's nice to find one but it only means the last worker using the build sheet decided to stuff it under the carpet, under the seats, behind the door panels, etc instead of tossing it in the trash.

So how does the Insurance Companys know what engine the car originally came with by the Vin numbers?

Prior to 1972 the only engine Chevrolet coded in the VIN was weather or not the car had a 6 or V8 engine. No one can tell what engine the car had because optional engines were not coded.
But some models in some years like the 66-68 SS had only one engine so its simple to figure out that a SS 386 had a 396 etc.
Its not possible to get a build sheet for the cars you mention UNLESS you can find one it the car. As Dale said, they were assembly line instructions on how to assembly the car. They had no function once the car left the plant. Many were generated per car that one or two was bound to never be seen during cleanup and delivery. If you are installing carpets into cars at 1 every minute, you are not about to pickup some piece of paper that the last guy tossed on the floor or that fell there. Its going to be covered up forever was all that was going thur their minds. NO ONE AT CHEVROLET less the guys building the car ever thought someone 34 yrs later would be wanting a build sheet or care less about the cars. They counted on 99% these cars lasting a certain amount of time before then wearing out and junked. They wanted to sell more cars.

For the 70 Chevelle built in LA, look on top of the gas tank. If the gas tank has never been removed you'll probably find a build sheet there.
