Searched 50 pages of searches and could not find my answer...

I am buying a 96 gearbox at a boneyard. He said it has been off the car for 6 or so years. What do you look for to tell if these are good units? after sitting that amount of time will the seals be bad? He has no record if the car was in a front end collision, any signs to look for? Any other advice? Much appreciated. - Roger

My advise is to go to a yard and look for a JGC that's not been hit in the front and pull it.
Or have them pull it off while you watch, ya can even check the mileage while your there?
That's the only way I feel you can be sure what your getting.
I pulled mine myself for that reason, cost me 65.00.

Thanks for the advice. I went this morning and found a 97, 59k miles, rear collision one. They wouldnt take the the pitman arm off... oh well... only cost me 45 bucks :)

Thumbsup Now at least ya know what ya have, they probably wouldn't take the arm off because it doesn't come off easy.
You will need a healthy impact gun to get it off, I had to borrow a Snap-on super heavy duty gun to get mine off.
