I just bought another 65 Chevelle, this one a SS 327. I need help decoding the engine to check it's originality. On the front left corner (looking from the front of the car) is BC2627411327, It has the double hump heads. Any help is appreciated. graemlins/beers.gif

TTT = To The Top, Rocky is just trying to help your post stay at the top and get noticed.

Those codes don't make any sense to me. Any idea if it is a modern (1980's and up) small block?

Thanks Rich for the explanation. I thought Rocky was playing with me. These are the accurate numbers on the front passengers side of the block. I was told the engine was original and have no reason to think otherwise. Trying to verify that.

It's not original for a 65 if that's what is stamped on the front pad. Should be something like T1025EA (or/B/C/D/E/F) for a 327. T would be for Tonawanda assembly plant, 1025 would be the date (Oct 25 in this case) and a 2 letter suffix EA...EF.

Take a closer look at BC2627411327 and see if maybe you get something else.

There often can be 2 distinct codes stamped on the block pad. These are hand stamped codes, correct?

Typical stampings often look like this.

Those digits are hand stamped, meaning not in a gang holder like my examples.

I bet you have a re-manufactured engine or an engine used in a boat or some other application. Those could be the ID codes that a builder put in there to ID one of their engines. Probably made of parts from other engines, 327 valve covers were never blue so someone has been busy with a paint can. If the block blue is original then its a 1977 and up engine which could be a 267, 305 or 350.

Look for a casting number on the back of the block (use a mirror but may want to power-wash engine first), we should be able to give you a range of years the block was used but you may never know really what you have.
