: pics of 67's with high beams removed

Hey guys,

My 67 is undergoing a major "update", hydroboost, baer track claws (already had) sc&c upper arms in front, edelbrock adjustables in the rear, boxed lowers, 1 inch rear bar, Lee steering box. A real (not fiberglass) 2 inch carbon fiber cowl hood is also being made for the car etc etc.

Going along with the new theme to the car I am going to add HID headlights up front, I have seen some 67's run high without the high beams and put like a mesh in place of the missing light. Was wondering if anyone had pics of a car with a similar setup. Also has anyone seen a Chevelle carbon fiber hood?

Thanks

Tom

There's a 67 wagon in Minnesota that's white and gold if I remember correctly that has them removed. Give me a second and I'll find some pics.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I like it or not. My car is butternut yellow and will have an unpainted carbon fiber hood, any opinions on running mesh in place of the high beam?

I think if you put a mesh in there that's tight so it doesn't still look like an open hole, it'll look ok. Going to put Ram Air ducts in there too?

Ya that's another thought I have been tossing around in my head.

You could use some standard window screen material to disguise the hole and then throw a pair of these on to dress it up??

Here's one with mesh over the light opening

I think it would look cool as long as you keep the mesh fairly tight. Also, in case you didn't see, another guy on here put HIDs from a BMW 5 series in his car and they were a good fit.

Short answer, No.
I've been searching for months now in the hopes of finding some CF bits for the 67' with no luck. Anvil was talking about doing some Chevelle parts, but seem to be focussing on the 2nd gen Camaro now...

If you come across someone willing to make one, be sure to post up. I'd love to take some weight off the front of this beast.

I am pretty sure there is a thread that Derek was considering doing this to his car?

http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232216&highlight=headlight+screens

Here is the thread. I think he posts links for where to get the insert as well

I know its not the same year but it might be the same size screen?

Ya that wagon is mine. Derek turned me on to where to get the screen inserts for the headlights. A previous owner ran a ram air filter setup, but it didn't come with the car so I was kinda stuck with it. He'd cut the inner headlight sockets out of the core support so it's not an easy fix to replace the original high beams.

It's growing on me though- I like the look and I plan to run cooling ducts to the front brakes from them eventually. I added a front spoiler recently and also fabbed up some hood pins, and all the mods kind of work together toward an early Trans-Am look I really like. I got side mirrors from a Cobra kit car place to add to that look. It's different, and the car actually backs up the look with decent power and handling capabilities for a 4-door wagon.

This was just a mock-up, I won't do the required core support mods until after i do a headlight upgrade. I love the look!

I like it too but whats the intention, originally? Was it induction only or?

Reason I ask is it would be a bit weird to have these ducts AND a cowl hood on the car....cowl hood drawing air from the lower windshield area and then ram air from the front of the car. Am I way off here in thinking this is like asking for cheese on your cheeseburger? Isnt it redundant?

The 67 above had ram air from the headlights. The cowl hood was for clearance issues, it wasn't hooked to the air cleaner. It would be redundant if both were hooked up. I prefer the flat hood with the headlight ram air, keeps people wondering.

going to hold off on it for now and make a final decision once everything else on the car is done. for now i will just put HIDS in the low beams and if I decide to keep the highs add those later.
