the vin break down for the 2nd & 3rd digit shows a ss 396 as 38. my question is: is a 36 also an SS car? I've seen them listed in adds as a SS 396 car. is any of these 31-32-33-34-36 & 37 an SS??? At the risk of sounding stupid, what is a concourse & concourse estate?

64 thru 68 were the only years you could tell a SS by the VIN (138xx) as they were a separate model from the Malibu. From 69 on the SS was an option on 136xx (except 69 where you could get the SS option on the 300 deluxe). A 64 through 68 136xx car was NEVER a SS car.
A Concourse is a large open space for the gathering of passage or crowds, like an airport terminal. A Concours, however, is a upscale Malibu wagon and also carries a 138xx VIN. There was also a Concours trim option on 68 Malibus.
