How do you identify if the cowl tag rivets are the correct rivets or not? Thanks, jim

I'd say look at examples from the same year AND same assembly plant. I have numerous photos of body tags at my ChevelleStuff site (see sig). Pick a Chevelle year from the drop down, then pick from *Information N-Z* and select *Trim Tag Samples* from the drop down. Find your plant and select it. I don't have examples from all plants for all years but there are quite a few there.

Thanks, I just put the web site on my favorite list. I don't quite understand what the world hollow means when refering to the cowl tag rivets.
Do you know? Is the center of the rivit hole filled with something or not? Jim

Thanks YenkoChevelle, I was worried when the center cauking fell out of the rivet. Now am trying to determine if the cow tag has been swapped and re-riveted. I see the rivets are available from Year One. DOes anyone know when reporductions of the rivets became available. The car I am looking at is an older restoration?

Thanks, Jim

I can say for sure that repos have been available for at least 18 years or longer. I did a color change on a GTO 18 years ago and got tired of everyone fussing about it at shows so I bought a repo cowl tag with the 'new' paint code on it.

VIN tag rivets are technically illegal to have loose. There have been people prosecuted for this. That does not stop some folks from selling them--possibly on eBay. If you need new ones, you will probably have to search a bit , as advertising for these would likely be low-key.

VIN tag rivet sales usually get caught on eBay pretty quickly and nixed. Only a limited number of select body shops, etc. are allowed to even own them. Body tag rivets can be purchased from the same place as the repro body tags for $12 each I believe. http://www.trimtags.com
