TJ026C4J
Check out the above set of digits, does not fit the patten. I can't make head or tails out of it. That first J should not be there and the last 3 digits C4J are the engine code but nothing like this can be found. Look at them closely and see if maybe they are something else?

38r433527 is the confidential VIN and always tells the true source of the engine.
3 - GM Division, 3 is Oldsmobile, 1 is Chevrolet, 2 is Pontiac, 4 is Buick etc.
8 - Model year, 1978
R - Car assembly plant
433527 - last 6 digits from the VIN of the car this engine went into on the assembly line.

Points to being an Olds engine. FYI-Olds started to use Chevy engines (called them corporate engines) aound 1977ish.

thanks for the info i will try to get a better read on the first number also it has a external balancer i didn't think any 350 had external thats what led us to believe it was a 327 also they had replaced the front markers with 1968 327 side markers and reversed them opposite of a 68, you can see blue paint under the orange on the heads which kinda leads you too a later engine i wonder if a 78 corporate was externally balanced

If you can get a good image and post it maybe I can make better sense from it.

Many times these stamps play tricks on the eye and appear to be one thing when they are really something else.

From GM parts

6272221 6.75" Torsional Damper This cast iron torsional damper (Harmonic balancer) is used on most 1969 and later production 305 and 350ci Chevrolet small-block V8's.
