There is no DD in the VIN, although I am pretty sure the 45837 means it is an SS V8 hardtop and the K means Kansas City assembly, built Jan,,3rd week of 64. There is no way to tell what engine came in the car without a build sheet which are rare in early Chevelles. I am sure one of the Tag Team experts will be along to fill in the blanks.

If it's an original 283-4 w/Powerglide, the engine suffix code (on the machined pad in front of the passenger side head) should be "JG" for a 283-4bbl, 220hp L77 engine. The date stamp should be for late December (12xx) or early January (01xx) since the body plate as a January, 3rd week stamping.

I think 64s (and others) had two air conditioning systems available. C60 was the factory installed unit (and would show the letter "E" in group 2) and C64 was the dealer installed unit that fit under the dash with nothing noted on the body plate. The latter was sometimes referred to as add-on air and sometimes dealers even farmed out the jobs to local shops.

As shooter mentioned, the DD was suppose to be used at the dealer for "Delivery Date", but was seldom stamped. I remember seeing a total of 2 that were stamped. There should also be six numbers behind the "45827Knnnnnn" indicating the sequence number, which for a January car should be fairly low.
