: Garage Make Over
shadowgray396 Apr 12th, 09, 11:01 PM I decided to do a make over on my 40 year old double car garage since the Chevelle is do back next month. I did this on a shoe string budget since my body guy seems to be getting my money these days and I'm only working part time. I got some of the cabinets for 20 dollars and found the others in a drop box that I asked if I could have them. I rebuilt them and painted them to all match. Sheet rock and insulation, lights and wiring, and paint for $450. Want to do a floor but haven't decided on the Black and White tiles or a seamless floor. What do you guys think?
Wheelhop Apr 12th, 09, 11:09 PM Ray,
nice job!! Now you're gonna have to get the dog out of there before the chevelle gets back home!
Racing Apr 12th, 09, 11:14 PM  Nice Job! Your going to enjoy that.
shadowgray396 Apr 12th, 09, 11:20 PM Ray,

I agree, it's moving to the dog house. It sheds to much during the hot weather.

Jerry Briggs Apr 13th, 09, 12:10 PM I'm impressed Ray! Looks great, wish I had somthing that good.
Highway Star Apr 13th, 09, 12:32 PM That is cleaner than my house!!
Looks really good.
For your floor, I say just paint it. My buddy just did his with Gray deck paint, and some sand for a non-slip texture, but the cool thing was that he laid down masking tape in 18" squares to give the appearance of tiles after the tape was pulled.
Chicken Coupe Apr 13th, 09, 1:29 PM Looks horrible! Best pull it all down and we'll send someone over to pick it all up before anyone else finds out! l:) :D
Actually...DA-UM that's one nice garage!
You're puttin us all to shame!
Freddy Mercado Apr 13th, 09, 8:41 PM Great job!! Looks great.

team5150 Apr 13th, 09, 8:52 PM You obviously don't live in CA with all of that stuff up on those top shelves !!l:)
ssal396 Apr 13th, 09, 8:59 PM Looks good, nice work there!!:beers:
shadowgray396 Apr 13th, 09, 10:03 PM Thanks everyone for the kind words, I just wish I had the chevelle to go it. 14 months and counting in the body shop. Its was due back in March, but the body guy had a minor stroke that set him back. I should have it sometime in May, the painting process has started.

frankf72malibu Apr 13th, 09, 11:54 PM Very nice sir. I have heard of people just buying the cheap 12 x 12 black and white vinyl tiles. I know I saw one member here that has done that with no issues. Low cost and no drying time, etc. And if a tile is ruined for some reason then just replace it. I have been thinking of doing this to my garage.

mr 4 speed Apr 15th, 09, 6:50 AM I like the idea of the peel/stick black & white tiles myself....
your garage looks great
hpsherlin Apr 15th, 09, 9:06 AM Wonderful dream garage!
The black and white VCT tile is the route I would like to go.....after I get insulation and sheetrock put up.
Laid a lot of that stuff back in the day. Full contact glue will hold much much better than the peel and stick stuff though.

Your not the only one.
Rmchevelle Apr 19th, 09, 3:14 PM Nice job!
Any "Before" shots?
dirtrocker Apr 19th, 09, 4:57 PM X2 on the VTC, it'll stay put ALOT longer than the peel and stick stuff!
JNorton Apr 19th, 09, 9:09 PM I was just working on my garage today, trying to get more organized. I was all proud of my work today...until I found this thread. I feel like tearing it all out and starting from scratch. That's one awesome looking workshop.
In reality, it makes me want to paint all my cabinets the same color. It's now a mish-mash of store bought cabinets and the old kitchen cabinets that got replaced when we remodeled. I really am thinking about painting them flat black and painting flames on them and/or replace the old hardware with something like old valves or connecting rods. Maybe I can score some old door handles or something like that. Too tacky?
team5150 Apr 19th, 09, 10:01 PM From a previous post . . .
I used 89 cent peel & stick tiles from Home Depot.
This floor was put down in 2000 and has seen engine, trans, rear end changes as well as the floor jack being used many hundreds of times on it. Everything has been spilled on it from coolant to acetone. You just have to be fast to get the acetone wiped up or it will trash the tile.
Some tiles have given their lives for the greater good of all, but at 89 cents each - who cares ! Pull it up and stick another one down.
In all of this time I have replaced maybe 15 of them because I damaged them with a cherry picker or bad alignment that pulled them to the side.
Every year I mop it with Super Clean and the wax it with the pour and mop stuff and it keeps looking great.
Your neighbors will HATE you !:D

No Laundary room in my garage. Been trying to find the Black and White tiles at Lowes or Home Depot. They don't seem to be able to get them or can't find them in their catalogs. The only ones I have found cost between $2.69 to $4.00 each and that puts the cost of the floor between $1350 to $2000. I can get a expoy seamless floor done for around $2000 (that includes fixing the cracks and a warranty) but wondering if it can take the abuse of a floor jack and engine hoist on it.

CRUZN69 Apr 27th, 09, 7:02 PM Her'e where I bought the last batch for the laundry room. They are the same as the ones in my garage.
