: Am I over paying?
BigBody Apr 12th, 09, 9:27 PM Found a '72 chevelle. Complete car with clear title. Car not running. Has a 383 stroker only ran for break in and put in with tranny (tranny has shift kit). Has all receipts for motor brand new demon carb, edelbrock intake, and headers... Claims to have 6k the whole car. What it needs to run, as far as I can see, is the new radiator he has put in, hoses, and the wiring hooked up, battery, fan, and power steering bolted up.
Body is over all pretty good. Driver door handle missing and passenger side door and front fender has small crease. All in primer. Little bondo on fender and behind rear window.
Interior is complete. Mismatched door panels and seats need recovered. Carpet looks good.
Car will need a exhaust put on. The tires are shot on the car. He has a set of slick wheels that go with the car just need tires.
He said he has to get 2500 out of it. I don't know if I can talk him down doesn't seem likely but we shall see.
The story is I am losing my license for a year. As part to help keep my sanity and reward myself for my sobriety I wanted to pick it up and work on it for the year to reward myself with a nice ride when I finally get my license back. I just don't want to buy it and find out I can't sell it for that if I should happen to lose my job at any point with the economy is the way it is.
Thanks all,
Kyle
furball8994 Apr 12th, 09, 9:41 PM Kyle. Without pix, Its a little hard to tell. Bondo on fender and behind rear window may mean new fender and rear window to trunk panel. Door may need replaced or at least reskined. New door panels and seatcovers...
If you don't mind the work, It could be a nice project. I'd say 2500 is about tops of what I'd pay...
jaf6738 Apr 12th, 09, 9:41 PM Do you have the tools, knowledge, time, and place to do the work for a year? If not; take a step back and think about it. If you do... jump in and get your hands dirty.:hurray:
BigBody Apr 12th, 09, 9:53 PM I don't mind the work. Sorry for no pics didn't have the camera with me and its not in town. I got a place to work on it and for what I lack my buddies always help out. Just around here I can't seems to find any chevelle that they don't want atleast 2k for and usually doesn't have any motor or tranny. Not to mention the bodys look terrible. So, in my mind it looked like a good deal. I doubt I will finish it in a year but, as long as its drivable thats all that matters.
I might add I'm not looking for show quality. Atleast not yet. I'd like to make this a backup dd/weekend cruiser. If that makes any difference.
Thanks all. Keep opinions coming.
Kyle
1969 El Camino Dan Apr 13th, 09, 12:18 AM Kyle, what will you do when you get the car home and a couple of weeks later you have the engine running and a nice set of wheels and tires on the car?
Have your buddies take you for a ride?? That's gonna be tough....
I bet he's got $2500 wrapped up in the engine, right? How can you go wrong for the same price whole car?
Dan
robtco99 Apr 13th, 09, 8:59 PM How are the floors, trunk floor, and frame rust wise? It sounds like a pretty good deal and it'll give you something to do while you wait to get your license back. I lost my license and built up an amx while I was in high school. Working on that car definitely kept me out of trouble....
1BLACKHARLEY Apr 13th, 09, 9:28 PM is it just me, or is every s.b. running or not a 383 stroker???
you don't have a liscense for a year, i guess this project is as good as any. hope it works out for you...

CRUZN69 Apr 14th, 09, 12:22 AM If the motor has aluminum heads, I'll buy it for what you paid for the car.

Sounds like a real decent start for a project.
$2500 is chump change.
What are you waiting for?

Herb396 Apr 16th, 09, 8:56 AM Kyle,
good luck with the project,,assuming your solid in the frame you should be OK. Remember 'first things first' and "easy does it". This is just a hobby and if it helps to keep ur sanity then have at it. Let us know how ur doing.
