This number is stamped on the front passenger side of my recently-purchased 454 block and I have no idea as to what it is.

Can someone help translate this?

TRH is 73, 74, 78, 80 Truck 454. 240hp, TH400 Trans..(for 1973, which I think your block is from)

I Think the T at the front stands for Tonawanda (spelling?) engine plant, 01 would be January, 03 would be 73?

This is just my guess, I am pretty bad at this decoding stuff.. I once decoded the back of my block upside down and thought I had the wrong block back from the machine shop until another TC poster said I was reading it upside down.

Just a guess.. hope that helps for now.

0103 is Jan 3rd. To verify year you need the partial vin stamped on the front pad. Or maybe the cating number and cast date from top rear of engine. Hard to read those with engine in car though.

usually when a engine code starts with a T in the early to mid 70's its out of a truck.
