I recently came across a 1964 what appeared to be a SS convertible. Upon further inspection of the Vin# 45837Axxxxx it decodes to be SS V8, sports sedan.
The owner who wants to sell it say it has always been a convert. So the question did chevy build a convert and put a sedan vin on? unlikely but i have to throw it out there, has anyone heard of such a thing.
The cowl tag info i have is the following:
O6A
Style 64-5837 AT-011541BODY
TRIM714 943 PAINT
ACC W 2KMPS
Can some help me on the last line to decode ACC W 2KMPS.

My feeling on this was someone in 80's decided to make a convert and sold it to this guy thinking it was an original convertible.

The only bright spot is that the engine and drive drive and rear end are original.

Thanks!

45837 is not a sports sedan but a Malibu SS V8 sport coupe ( a sedan has door windor frames)

W 2KMPS

Gr.1
W - A02 Tinted Windshield (only glass tinted)

Gr.2
K - C60 A/C
M - M35 Power-glide trans
P - Push button radio, or backup lights, remote mirror (varies by model)
S - U73 Rear antenna

This has to be one of two things; The car was converted to a rag-top or the VIN and body tags from a SS car were put on this car to make it appear to be an original SS.

Either way, this is probably one car to avoid buying. A converted rag-top is most likely not going to be a good car because rag-top used a HD frame and more body bracing that a roof car would have. Making it a structurally unsound car.

Thanks for the help on decoding that. The car vin tag and cowl tag are original to the car, so i think some genius wanted a rag top and chopped it.
There is a lot of good pieces on it from the SS center console to the dash thats completely in tact and in good condition. The motor, tranny and rear end match the vin.
I think i might make an offer mainly for parts.

Again thanks for the help.
