Dean,

Can't help with who or where the mysterious person is, but I remember seeing a 67 300 convertible on eBay a couple months ago. I had certainly never heard of one before that, but thought it might have been a 'Canada-only' thing, kinda like the 66 Malibu SS

Insufficient data does make helping someone a bit more difficult doesn't it, Dean? Things like, "Will a Buick rear end fit my car?"

If he can't spell 'c-o-n-v-e-r-t-i-b-l-e', maybe he shouldn't own one.

They were indeed built in Canada. I have a few pics of one here (http://www.chevellestuff.com/67stuff/gallery/chevelle/index.htm) that has been for sale a few times. Don't have the owner info as I think it was sold by the person that sent me these.

Dean,

The car owned by your mysterious person was on eBay within the last week; reserve not met.

I thought it was an interesting car. It is definitely Canadian, I was wondering why he didn't get the Canadian documentation before auctioning the car.

Wow, good detective work, Bruce! And Minooka, IL is not far from me. Guess that solves the mystery for Dean - except we still don't know the person's name. And, I would have to own 94 more Chevelles in the next 5 years to catch up to him

I asked him for his name and where he's from.

Now I'm trying to find the address of the place where you get information on Canadian built Chevelles to send him.

Mr. Baugh must have been the high bidder when the auction ended, and made the deal afterward. I wonder what he paid for it if he thinks it will be worth $250,000 after restoration. I think he is dreaming. It may be rare and interesting, but it is still a 6 cylinder stripper model.

"this is a very high dollar car since it is very rare car"

As Bruce alluded, "rare" does NOT necessarily mean "highly valuable". Mr. Baugh may be in for a rude awakening.

I have never seen a Chevelle 300 convertible that was worth much money. They were stripped down (even that has a certain appeal to me), bought on the cheap to be used as a second car. Most often when a cheap car is bought it is by a cheapskate who may even go cheap on maintenance. By the time it becomes a 3rd hand Chevy it's demise is predictable, especially in the rust belt. Since they were only offered in Canada, with 1/10 the population of the U.S. and in a generally semi-hostile environment, survival rates of this low-production model are in turn low. I have seen 2 or 3 in person in the last 18 years, not including the pictures I've seen on the Internet. These cars are more scarce than Z-16s, but that sure a h*** doesn't mean that they are worth more!

I talked with a guy in Kitchener, Ontario about 7 years back that owned a rusted '66 300 convertible with a 283 - he said that GM told him less than 300 were produced as V8 models in '66. I wonder if that car will ever make it back from the brink?

Between 1970-73 I recall a classmate's mother owned a '66 300 convertible, Danube Blue with a white top, 283 & Powerglide. It was clean and stock when they traded it in 1973 for a new Ventura hatchback.

14 cars after mine on the assembly line in Oshawa there was a Bolero Red one with black interior & top, 250 / Powerglide, power top, wheel covers, whitewall 7.75s & even an AM radio. 1 of 97 eh? Unlike the mainstream 300 sedans, the convertible actually got rear armrests (formed by the covers that conceal the top hydraulic cylinders).

I have scanned the brochure picture and blown it up. I did not like the cheesy airbrush job they did on certain details of that picture, so I modified the picture to look just like the one that followed my car down the line (it turned out pretty good). The file is pretty large (almost 4 Mb. and I'm on dialup) or I'd post it.

I figure that the base 300 convertible was offered along with the Malibu (and Canadian Malibu SS which is just a Malibu), plus all the corresponding Beaumont models, just to get the convertible production figures high enough to pay for the convertible tooling and make a profit for GM Canada.

I received from some mysterious person from some mysterious place.

I hate it when people don't even say their name I have gotten a few of those. Some with bogus return address, so the time you spent looking up the data is wasted as your reply comes bouncing back to you in minutes saying the email address does not exist.

I don't respond to anyone who won't give a name or is not polite in their request for information.
