A friend is looking at a 64 Malibu that the owner claims it is a legit 300 hp 327 4 speed car.

I remember it being offered, as a buddy of mine tried to order one - but the order was rejected as it was too late.

I have found most of the codes, but how can one tell if it is indeed a "numbers matching" original vs a period correct clone? There is no paperwork available on the car.

Any idea of how many were produced.

Any 64 experts out there? Sure could use some help.

Thanks,
Tony

The engine suffix code should be JR, You could not get a 327 in a 64 Chevelle until late in the model year.
Check the body and engine dates.

Late in 64 is the key April-August. Over the years I have seen lots of original not 327-300's 327-350/360 64's. It's always cool to find a original please share if it is really true.

The JR code is what you should be seeing. I own a 64 SS, matching numbers car.
-- JQ manual tranny (M20)
-- 327 engine, matching number
-- 202 heads double hump heads (redone)
-- .040 over, new flat tops, steel crank, solid lifter cam, 750 holley
-- lazer straight body, roto resto.

MOD EDIT: Ads are not allowed, you can post an ad in the want ads section. Thanks!
