What's the stock application of the 6-speed auto tranny that TCI is now selling?

I wondered about that, too. The photo in the ad I saw looks like a 4L80E; which clearly isn't a six-gear.

There isn't one - as I understand it, they set it up to engage OD in any gear, making it a 6 speed.

So, it's:

First
First OD
Second
Second OD
Third
Third OD

There are a few automatic 6-speeds for cars. They're new designs, I bet there isn't much aftermarket support (or aftermarket solutions to half-assed OEM engineering) for them at all. Kinda like the 4-speed overdrive units in the middle '80's. My understanding is that the 6-speed that GM and the 6-speed that Ford uses are more-or-less the same transmission; it was a joint project to develop the thing because it's so complex and expensive to engineer.

First Guess: The price for a "real" six-speed auto starts at about six thousand dollars; and goes up from there.

I figured the TCI six-speed was too good to be true...I just didn't know the details.

That project was scraped before it went into production.
The 4 prototypes were never finished.
Each developed there own independently.
Look up/search for 6L80-E Transmission -GM's version.

Thanks! I figured with Ford involved, the thing would be a disaster.

$4,700 + electronic controller. I bet my ~$6000 estimate wasn't too far off!

And people complain about the gear ratio spread between first and second with a 700.
