This is supposedly a '69 SS. The picture shows the 134 vin. It appears to be a factory bucket seat car and a floor shift judging by the steering column. If it is a 134 car, where are the window posts?

134 is a 300 deluxe V8. Which is one of the two models the SS was available on.
The last two numbers were the (27) "post" or (37) "hard top"

The 13427 SS396 cars are two door post with the vent windows. The 13437 cars, like ours, were a regular hardtop body without windows and the astro vents on the dash. They all came with the cheap seat bench seat interiors. I too had bucket seats and console in ours for 3-4 years before finding the material to repair the original seats. I'm pretty sure that bucket seats weren't available from the factory in these 300 Deluxe cars. It was a bench seat 4 speed car too. At least I've never seen one documented.

So could this have actually been a 300 Dlx SS?

After looking at the pictures I would say no it was not an SS. No SS emblems on fenders and no holes in the back where an SS emblem would go. The tail light bezels are stock 300 deluxe issue. The seats are highbacks out of a later model car. The steering wheel looks to be out of a later model Camaro.

It seems to have been an original code 52 Red car to judging by the indide of the doors and such.

I would agree. Probably not an SS.

But I want those valve covers! Anybody know what brand they might be?

They look like the same type that the Motion cars had. I don't know who made them for Motion, but repops are on Ebay once in a while. Here is a so called original set.

Could be Mickey Thompson, but I think those were "boxier" and flatter on the top. I think they are Motion type. But I am not going to pay the price on ebay unless they are in a lot better condition than what was shown.

The cal custom valve covers were very cool! I had a set awhile back on a 55 Chevy. They had been painted orange in the center then the rest was polished. looked pretty sharp. Here is a few pictures of them on the motor

you can get the Cals for around $70.
The other ones can sometimes be found by searching ebay for finned valve covers...

you can also "sometimes" buy the motion sticker and add that to the little square box...

not for some nice bbc ones. I payed 150 for some regular ones then 200 or so for those polished ones. and I looked around for awhile before I bought those. I couldn't find them any cheaper. :noway: if you find a set for $70 let me know.

Bought a set in March for $45, ebay. Uncut, no breaks and in black paint. Ebay number 110348524800

I need to polish them and paint them but I love doing that...

I do all my own polishing...buy cheap and send them to me...I would do it for fun...

Lloyd...there was a polished set on ebay with breathers and painted orange...I bid those up something fierce...

wow. Id say that was a deal. they look a little rough but should clean up good. both sets I bought were in immaculate shape and needed nothing. I'm thinking about finding another set for my 70.

They LOOKED rough. They were just painted...I used some paint striiper and let them sit. Took all that off and presto...all they need now is for me to finsh buffing them...
