Has anyone bought a new shifter for a 70 chevelle. My chevelle currently has a saginaw 4 speed in it and I am looking to buy a shifter for it. The car is an original 4 speed car with no console. Could anybody please give me some suppliers and part numbers and approx. prices it would be appreciated. Mat

Buy a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. You might save a few dollars buying a knock-off brand but nothing beats the real thing. Visit the Mr. Gasket web site at: www.mrgasket.com and download the Hurst catalog. As far as cost, try Jeg’s or Summit. Visit them at: www.jegs.com and www.summitracing.com . Price should be around $250. I’ve been running a big-block Chevy powered GTO with a Muncie and a Competition Plus shifter for 4 years. Very pleased with the shifter. Plan on buying another for a Doug-Nash 5-speed installation. Good luck.
