: I found my build sheet - NOT!!
Neuman Jul 30th, 04, 11:17 AM In my continuing quest to find the build sheet of my KC 69' SS, I thought I had finally stumbled onto my treasure when I removed the back of the driver's seat:

After careful removal, it turned out to be this:

which may not even be from my car. I am working under the assumption that the Sequence number should correspond to the Fisher Body Sequence number which, on my car, ends in 641. Is this assumption correct or is this a completely different sequence number?
My search, however, was not a complete failure. Folded under the wiring harness which runs under the carpet below the drivers seat, I found this:

It appears to date from the late 1960's. CORRECTION: Read my post below.
ANYBODY can find a build sheet but how many of you have an original Bazooka Joe comic from an assembly line worker?? Don't try and hide it - I know you're all jealous!! graemlins/hurray.gif
As I am running out of hiding places, I fear that I may never find it or, that I may have inadvertantly disposed of it years ago. I noticed that in the springs of the rear seat is a scrap left from a piece of paper. Though I do not recall doing so, I may have removed the back seat in the 80's and thought it was a piece of trash graemlins/clonk.gif and thrown it out. What's a high school kid care about a build sheet?? graemlins/angry.gif
TripleWhiteSS454 Jul 30th, 04, 1:28 PM Better luck next time, eh Neuman? But congrats on the ultra-ultra rare Bazooka Joe comic!!!! graemlins/beers.gif That's too funny!
I'd say that makes your Chevelle a one-off car for sure! Hope you find the build sheet for all your efforts, and when you do find it, now you'll have an amusing story to go along with it. ;)
freshayr Jul 30th, 04, 1:45 PM ahhh Neuman.......Put the comic on ebay....somebody will buy it.

Neuman Jul 30th, 04, 2:23 PM Unfortunately, my luck has not changed. I have been informed by a Bazooka Joe expert (did you know there was such a thing??) that this card actually dates from the early 80's prior to my acquisition of the vehicle. I had always thought that the carpet was original but, apparently, it was removed and reinstalled/replaced at that time.
It looks like the only location left to find a buildsheet is in the headliner graemlins/sad.gif
Dale Eikmeier Jul 30th, 04, 3:40 PM Hey, I'll challenge your Bazoka Joe expert. Your comic is from the late 60s/early70s. (I was there). My conclusion is based on the camera and the use of 126 film. I used the same camera to get when working on the Photography merit badge sometime prior to 1970. 126 film was rare and hard to get by the 80s.

Besides, who has such a pitiful life that they're a Bazooka Joe expert - next thing you know I'll be taking advice from a Mopar "expert!! :D
DaleM Jul 30th, 04, 6:41 PM When you say 'Fisher Body Sequence Number', what are you referring to exactly? The body number on the firewall plate is not really a 'sequence number' as in the nnnnnn th body built but rather a number assigned by GM when the car was ordered to be built.
It looks like the I.D. number/plate number would be a good candidate for the Fisher Body firewall plate. The sequence number (562) could be what's found in the top of block 8. I have a couple of KC 69 build sheets on my ChevelleStuff site you might want to look at.

Neuman Jul 30th, 04, 6:52 PM When you say 'Fisher Body Sequence Number', what are you referring to exactly? What I meant when I wrote that was the sequence number on the VIN, ie: the last 6 digits. My point, or my question, was, does the sequence number on this sheet correspond to anything on the car or is it a "random" assembly number?
Until I find my elusive build sheet, which is looking less likely all the time, I won't know what is in my block 8.
Thanks again for the input.
elcamino Jul 31st, 04, 8:32 AM The assembly of the cars was all pre-programmed. The body number, the VIN number were all set when the car was scheduled for production. Every day the plant used sequence numbers to correspond the the body and VIN of the scheduled cars. The daily sequence numbers kept everything in sequence so it arrived at the right place at the right time to go on the car. While things did not always go as planned, 99& did otherwise there would have been mass confusion. Chevy's with Olds engines,Buick axles, Pontiac interiors and GMC emblems on them.
;)
On a side note, a friend is a GM service tech at a B-P-GMC shop. Last year he attended some in-service training. One of the instructors was a former assembly plant engineer and he told them horror stories of assembly line screw-ups. One was in a plant building Olds and Buick's. The line supply loader driver mixed up trans cooler line bin and placed the Olds parts bin in place of the Buick parts bin at the line station. So a bunch of cars came down the line with the wrong lines installed on some cars. When it came time to install radiator the lines did not match up so they never got connected. They came off the line pumping the ATF out onto the floor and that was the first time it was noticed. Quite a few cars had been built and were now junk. Rather that repair them, it was cheaper in the long run to scrap them.
