: Check out my new find! Vespa 64
feedphillipnow Apr 9th, 09, 10:29 PM I landed this sweet '64 Vespa.
I've never worked on bikes or motorcycles/ scooters so this will be fairly new to me, but also familiar, having built Chevy engines. Not sure what I'm doing yet, the engine came in pieces, needs a new kickstart gear and the piston looks like it MIGHT need replacing, original paint I think is nothing short of badass, has a couple dings, I might end up sanding and going for a full restore and new paint, or just get it on the road and wheel around town. Fun project I think... What do you guys think? It's no big block or Chevy... I know :)

pnugene Apr 9th, 09, 10:52 PM When I was a kid, (late 60's) those things were commonplace around my town. I always thought they looked cool. Looks like you scored a nice one.

bcice Apr 10th, 09, 12:36 AM A friend of mine has one that looked much like that when we were 15 years old but I think it was an Allstate. I am wondering if it was a Vespa made for Sears
LKSV8 Apr 10th, 09, 1:53 AM didnt know that the vespas were available in the states, my brother had one , there are still vespa clubs here in ireland, millions of them still running round italy, great find.:hurray:
feedphillipnow Apr 10th, 09, 2:27 AM Yeah, I hear they ship them here. I see newer models on the streets, a couple motorcycle dealers here in town sell them. I love the 60's models, tough to find... atleast in one piece. the body has so much character. It'll be a fun project.
feedphillipnow Apr 10th, 09, 3:26 AM I cleaned the engine tonight, should I cover any specific parts with plastic, grease, wd40? Keep anything from rusting? Not sure how long until I get things together.
novaderrik Apr 10th, 09, 3:37 AM now you gotta get yourself a beret and a scarf and one of those long cigarette holder things.

Late 50's and early 60's they were a big thing until the Hondas arrived! Then everyone wanted a real motorcycle!
Had a neighbor had a Vespa car! It was a little thing with a convertable top I think it was like a 1960. If I remember right it was actually made by Fiat!:)

There's romance in your future, a little Roman Holiday, perhaps?
Rich-L79 Apr 10th, 09, 10:04 AM If riding a Vespa can get Audrey to ride along with me, I'm all for it!
Get that Vespa running and you too can be as alluring as Terry the Toad from American Graffiti! Well, later he became Terry the Tiger so there's hope yet but ya gotta find a cool '58 Chevy with a 327 to bomb around in.

Yes it was a Vespa sold by Sears. I had one I rode to high school in 59-61. It was sold in the Sears catalog for about $320 and was a 125cc Vespa. I loved it.:)
Also, Sears sold a car from the catalog called an Allstate.
It was a rebadged Henry J and sold for about $1500.
My local Ford dealer recently became a Vespa dealer and the new ones sell for about 3-6K depending on size.
Most are now 4 cycle engines vs the 2 strokes from the old days.
