I'm pulling a 350 out of my dads old chevy truck and would like to know what year the engine is. The engine code is T0424CMR. What else can you tell me about this engine based on the code?

I'm having trouble narrowing it down. Using CMR as the suffix code i'm coming up with three different possibilities. http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/spcode3.html anything else i can look for on the engine that will help me out?

Can you post the partial vin number that is stamped into the same pad next to the engine code you already posted?

There are no more numbers stamped next to that one. there is a number by the oil filter that i can't read entirely and there is on above that on the trans flange in really large raised lettering that is 3*70014 (*=something that looks like a backwards C, can't tell what it is.)

3970014 is the casting number for a 350 block.

See if there is a casting date close to this casting number on the flange. It will be small raised lettering of a letter for month and numbers for day and last digit of year.(D184 or D1874 is April 18th '74)
Also if it is the partial vin you cannot read stamped by the oil filter, only the first few digits are important, can you read any of them. Normal vin format will look something like 14B123456 where
1=Chevy
4='74
B=Baltimore assembly plant
123456=sequence number of car
