What is the secret for removing the pull knobs from the cable on the kick panel vents (non-air cars)? I want to install new knobs but can't seem to get the old knobs off. Does the entire cable assembly have to first be removed? I don't think the knobs and the cable are one unit.

Went through this on my '69. Had to crush the knobs with a hammer to get them off. Tried heat to the point of the knobs distorting, but wouldn't budge. New knobs push on and may need a little glue inside to stay on. Knobs/cables remove easily from kick panels and vents by removing a clip. Emergency brake mechanism must be removed to get the left panel off. von
Where can I get these clips? Any other way to secure cable?

To answer your original question, the knobs are screwed on. I've got a '71 and noticed that on the one missing its knob there are threads like a wood screw. It doesn't sound like they are going to easily come off though. Good Luck.
