: Total confusion
FiremanMike Jul 18th, 04, 6:14 PM I am storing and need to finish my son-in-laws 67 SS. He is in Iraq, another year to go. I just picked the car up from a 'restorer' after he had it for many years and am getting aquainted with big muscle cars again. Problem...the vin does not quite decode according to the provided decoders. VIN reads...138177K200584. I am OK until the 2 shows up. Decoders say it should be a 1. Help and thanks
Mike
d1_bradley Jul 18th, 04, 7:56 PM This only repeats what you have said, but it also has info on the cowl tag. May help.

I have seen mistakes on the title (typos) and they can be corrected with visual inspection at DMV. If its the actual VIN tag, that could be tricky.
FiremanMike Jul 18th, 04, 8:00 PM I thought of this after I posted...could this car be # one hundred thousand 584? If so, how many were made?
Mike
elcamino Jul 18th, 04, 9:30 PM Nothing is wrong with VIN!!! You are just misinterpreting what the VIN means.
The serial number portion started at 100001 and went up from there, meaning your car was the 100584 Chevelle model out the door. Just proves they made more than 100,000 Chevelle's at that plant. I have seen one higher than this from Leeds (KC plant).
DaleM Jul 19th, 04, 8:15 AM Have to agree with elcamino. If it's a late model year production car (July/August 67), it's perfectly possible there were over 100,000 Chevelles (all models mind you) built at KC.
Not that it means a whole lot but what's the body tag number right after KAN? That should be up in 5 figures.
chevelleragtop Jul 19th, 04, 8:58 AM I have a late july Baltimore car...138677B213024.
Bill Pritchard Jul 19th, 04, 10:34 AM FiremanMike,
As Dale says, post all the numbers and information from the Trim Tag (located on the firewall in the engine compartment, says 'Body By Fisher' on it) and maybe we can help you out some more.

FiremanMike Jul 19th, 04, 7:54 PM I am at work and unable to put all of the info up for evaluation. I believe the build date was 8606 or such, I will check Tuesday when I get home. In reading other posts I see much reference to the build sheet. Where/what is this. Like I said, I have been out of American muscle for 40 years too long and feel like a babe in the woods with this.
Thanks
Mike

Depending on where the car was made, the date code would be something like 07A, 07B, etc. for July, 1st/2nd week.
