: El Camino
vic2tric Apr 8th, 09, 1:31 PM I'm thinking about looking at this and potentialy buying it for my wife. I am not an El Camino expert by any means. I can do body and mechanical work. If this is solid do you think it's priced fairly?
Thanks

Looks like a real fair price if he is telling the truth.

1969 El Camino Dan Apr 8th, 09, 4:55 PM Don't know about the market in MN, but beginning of summer last year, I bought my el Camino for $2000. It has a great running engine and trans (350/350) and a body with typical rust. Interior was the biggest reason I was able to get mine for the price, I believe. I'ts a factory bucket seat truck, but the interior was really crappy! I put that right quickly and have a very nice driving truck that is getting the body fixed while I drive it.
Take a look at the link in my sig.
Check it out carefully, does it have disc brakes in front? Is it bucket seats? Malibu trim? Engine is fairly easy, does she like to drive a manual trans? I bet he will take less...

I spoke with the owner tonight. He's about my age a grandfather also. The car does not have disc brakes, front passenger fender sounds like it's toast. The rear drivers quarter has two ripples in it due to an accident quite a few years ago other than that no rust through anywhere. It has buckets but he doesn't believe they're original. Glass is all good.
I think you got a good deal for 2G's
72ElCamino Apr 8th, 09, 10:55 PM I bought my '72 for 1600 with it taken home on a flatbed. It had a 350 with a th400 that we ended up selling because it didnt run and I had a 350/TH350 combo to go in. This also came with a full set of rallies with trim rings and centers.
you can see pics of it in my photobucket.
Like Dan said I dont know the market up there but I waited for a good while for this one.

Jim Mac Apr 8th, 09, 11:56 PM must be a regional thing. I paid $1500 for my 68, needed a new interior and a couple of tires. Had a rebuilt 327 and th350. disc brakes. headers etc.
My 71 parts car, I think we practically stole it for $1300, It didnt come with a motor, but it did come with a M20 and everything to go with it. 621 bell incl. 3.31 12 bolt posi, console, discs, SS hood, tilt wheel, ac.
I did pass on another 71 for $600 awhile back. jim

I think I did too!
Most front fenders have rust or a repair in the lower corners. The rear window area is often rusted to perforation as is the front cowl/windshield area. If either of these areas let in water then the floorboards suffer.
The area of the lower cowl, below the air vents is another problem area, as the dirt and leaves that blow in the upper intake tend to collect down there and hold moisture next to the unprotected metal.
Disc brakes are a pretty easy upgrade.
If you can post some better pics, that would help.
Really who cares if the bucket seats came originally, so long as they are there...
Core complete bucket seats are sold for $250 to $500/pr.!
