seems like the 16 inch fan covers more area, but which will typically move more air?

btw, Im asking about the 10 inchers because my core has a 20" width.

aslo, what would be a good junkyard dual fan setup to move enough air to cool a mild bbc

Depending on the fan, the 16" should move more air compared to the 2 10" fans. Personally the 10" fans are a bit small for primary cooling, better suited to extra cooling.

The baddest fan out there is simply the Lincoln Mark VIII, from about 93-97. I picked one up from the wrecking yard for $25.00. This thing easily pulls over 4000 cfm of air. Mine is installed on a small block, so space was not a concern. I have sat in the staging lanes in 110 degree weather with the car running for at least a 1/2 hour and the temp gauge stay right at 180 degrees...

If this fan does not cool your car nothing will!!!

If you want dual fans I do see many guys running the dual fans from the Ford Windstar vans...

Good Luck and lets us know how it turns out...

As stated above the Mark VIII is good. I have a Flex-a-lite S-blade (part #160) fan on my car. Keeps the engine cool even in traffic and autocross use. Plus it pulls less amps than the Mark VIII, but less air at 3000 cfm. Easy wiring as well and an adjustable thermostat as well. Randy

I went from a 16" Derail to two 11" Spal fans and for me that works better.

One on the major keys to cooling is CFM
there a few ways to look at it .
with a 20 wide core you may have room for 2 spal 11 inch or 12 inch fans one high one low over lapping at center line .. this will give you a combined CFM rating .see links
http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.aspx?p=itemdetail&item=30102054

2nd choice a hi Cfm 16 inch with a shroud .. like flex-o light black magic around 2200 cfm
http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/black-magic.html

or a spal high Cfm single 16 inch there newest 16

I only carry Spal fans duw to there quality and true Cfm ratings ... some others inflate there CFM ratings for sales .

I put a flex-a-light on 66 shelby kit car and im not impressed .

I have to agree with Don. The Flex-a-lite fan I have works pretty good, but the other fans they have don't impress me either. I tried this fan since I could get it through work for a good price. I am willing to change it if needed, I would most likely go with the Spal fans next time.

Simple math (3.14 x R2, area of a circle) =

16" = R8, so ((8 x 8) x 3.14) = 200.96 sq. in. area
10" = R5, so ((5 x 5) x 3.14) = 78.5, times 2 fans = 157 sq. in. area

25% more area with the single 16"
