The latest 1111138 distributor for a 1966 Chevelle 396/360hp engine, Holley carb, 4-speed that I've been able to find is November of 1965. Does anybody know if they limited production in 1966 or why this is?
Thanks,
Bob

Whats up bob..........My #138 dist. is dated Dec. 13, 1965. Its just because you're looking for a late date so all the ones you're finding are early dates. Isnt that the way it always works.

Hey, Norm; I know what you're saying, but have you ever seen an original 138 distributor made in 1966? There is one on Ebay that is Dec 1965, also. They will "fix" the date to your liking, and I assume there are some "fixed" 1966 dates available. CPU out of IL sells 138 distributors with the date of your choice for $225. I don't think they are unique. I wondered if GM's production of these distributors lessened or stopped in 1966. I realize that may be a question without an answer.
Thanks,
Bob

A person could speculate that demand for 360HP engines decreased when the 375HP L78 was released (Oct., Nov. ?). This could have created some excess distributor inventory at Tonowanda that took a while to use up. I don't have any evidence to back this up, but I thought I had read somewhere that there was disappointment with the 360HP performance. So what are the dates on some 360HP distributors in engines produced during Jan., Feb., or later?

I did see one for sale here on team chevelle about 2-3 years ago and it was to late for my car by a couple months so it would have been a march or april date. That has been the only one I have seen for sale here on this site and only seen one other on Ebay in the last few years and it was a sept/oct date, but I bought it anyways.
