: anyone need a project
317millhand Apr 7th, 09, 9:28 PM I have failed to locate a decent body shop in Eastern Kentucky that isnt backed up for a year. I need to have floors, trunk, lower quarters, dropoffs, inner and outer wheel wells welded in my 67. I can weld pretty good but I'm afraid that I couldnt get everything to line back up. I could probably do the floor my self or even parts of the rear, but the trunk, dropoffs, fenderwells, and quarters together are a little too much to handle. The body is off the frame. I've got a guy here that can get the car in primer and paint once the welding is done. Does anyone want to tackle this project or can recommend someone. I'd be willing to bring the car within a days drive. Would also consider buying a good body that doesnt need so much work. I know this is more of a wanted ad, but none of the categories in the classifieds fith this scenario. I did list a classified looking for a body. Please pm me to discuss price or call Steve at 606-438-9921
baloo28 Apr 8th, 09, 6:54 AM Honestly, I would try it. Worst case, you have to do it more than once on the same car. I did everything you mentioned by myself. Take your time, double, triple, quadruple check everything before tacking in place and have fun with your project.
ktrim Apr 8th, 09, 7:50 AM Ive got a friend with a body shop in middletown ohio (a little north of cincinnati). (about 4-5 hours from hazard) I know he is a bit slow at the moment and would welcome the work. He helped alot with the shemenski chevelle. here's a link to his website http://webbscustompaint.com/. If you call him tell him Ken Trimboli sent you. He is a super nice guy and does amazing work.
My wifes family is from hazard by the way
317millhand Apr 8th, 09, 6:11 PM Thanks for the info guys and thanks for the vote of confidence jeff. i definately have some more options now. If I can strike up the nerve I may try it, but I'm gonna get some rough estimates first. I have seen some shabby looking body work on cars here lately that definately make my confidence stronger. I'd love to be able to say I done it myself, but I do want a slick job. I have over 20 grand in parts alone laying in my garage, so the paint and body work must be perfect. I'm also gonna look in Pigeon Forge, Tn at the Grand Run next weekend for a better body. I can always make a strip car out of the one I have now if I can find a sweet deal on a good body for my cruiser. Its a small world Ken. Most people havent even heard of Hazard.
baloo28 Apr 8th, 09, 9:03 PM Weren't the Dukes from Hazard?
Seriously, I didn't want to do anything like I have but it only takes the first step and then the next, etc. Take the plunge....it's worth it.

He has zero experience. There are pleanty of guys here that will answer any questions.. We did this in a weekend, plus it came out better than any bodyshop trying to scimp hours for a profit.. because no one can give you an estimate that they won't change. look at the pics.. the car probably looks like yours.
good luck with the project

fullthrottle1972 Apr 10th, 09, 3:11 PM I'm starting the exact same project. My parts arrived yesterday. I plan on patching the drop offs, patching the inner wells, and replacing the full outer wheelhouses as well as full quarter skins. I've been getting my advice from a friend who runs a classic resto shop in Nebraska. He's told me to be sure not to cut even the skins and outer wheelhouses unless the car is bolted back on the frame. I currently have the body off, and the frame is done. What do you all recommend, frame on or frame off?

I would have it bolted back on the frame.. i think this is a must. Unless you have a jig designed from an old frame.
fullthrottle1972 Apr 11th, 09, 3:13 AM Thanks John, this car is getting lowered Sunday. Hopefully if the original poster, Steve, decides to do it himself, this will help him too. I got a new cowl hood in the mail two days ago. I can't wait to get this thing on the frame, and take a look at it will all of the steel on it. I know it's still a long road from here, but it's still gonna be a major step forward!
Hot66ss Apr 11th, 09, 3:52 AM Sorry Steve. I know you mean well but this is a wanted ad and to be fair I must shut it down. Good luck with your project.
