ST 70 = 1970 model year, KAN = built in Kansas City plant, 876347 BDY is the body sequence number.
TR 790 is the trim code Ivory vinyl. 78B is the paint code black cherry metallic with a black vinyl top. 03D is the buiuld date, 4th week of March 1970. 04024 is one of those unknown codes that the factory put in randomly for misc other options.

On a Kansas built car, the first four digits on the number are found in block 24 labeled as DP SEQ NO. Also in this block is the Fisher Body number. See here for some KC buildsheets (http://www.chevellestuff.com/70velle/70_build_leeds.htm) and here for some KC buildsheet box breakdowns (http://www.chevellestuff.com/tech/70_build_sheet_kansas.htm).

I know BlueSS454 must have tongue-in-cheek when saying randomly smile.gif
