(C S-3 1) Left side line 1
(4) Left side line 2

These are in the TRIM AND PAINT NUMBERS area of the POP in the top left rectangle.
This car is a 65 Malibu SS Ragtop (138675K...) It has a 2 Tone interior (Saddle and Dark Saddle)
It has a Tan colored conv-top frame
It had original I believe a White top with a tan colored fabric underside. Thanks for any help! DAN

C ~ is for Saddle interior trim. It's my understanding that the code here is for the painted trim color and not the fabric trim color but I could be wrong. Example, a car with white fabric interior might have red or black carpet/painted trim/etc.
S-3 ~ is for body/exterior paint, Sierra Tan w/beige top (white would be S-1). I've never personally never seen an original 65 beige conv top, I'm only going by book codes here. I'm open to the interpretation of a white top with a beige inside liner.
1 ~ is for power steering only (2 is power brakes and 3 is for both)

Line 2:
4 ~ doesn't jive with book (no big surprise. Book shows '1' for A/C and 5 for A/C and rear defogger. Could be an omission or just never found. I have a '4' in the 'N' position (options) on a 67 POP and a couple with a '1' in the 'L' position that do not appear in my GM literature concerning POPs either.

The only code number '4' it shows for options is on the first line, 5th position (next to last from the right) as the radio option and that being with RPO U63 and RPO U80.

My 65 POP stuff comes from an old 'The Chevelle Report' in NCOA days so maybe newer information has been gathered since and possilby a '65 guru can lend assistance.

Jon Haislip could possibly help, if you know his email address, I don't. he has a cypress green 65 convert with a fawn interior and could have the info, he has collected much literature from the past on these cars.

Thanks for helping guys, The 65 Protect o plate seams to be in a league of its own...with very little info on TC.
Here is line 1 all the way across
C S3 1 3 1
Here is line 2 all the way across
4 183675K1.....
The 4 in line two is directly below the S3 in line 1 (still unsure what the 4 is ?)

Now, if the C in line one is saddle and a interior painted surface only... it may be the dark saddle of the upper dash (non padded) The rest of the interior is painted car color(sierra tan)Except the top frame(it could be a tan or a biege but not really saddle)Top Frame still has original color.

That brings me to the S3 code. The (S) I know is Sierra Tan. The (3) has me wondering if it is also a painted surface only could it be the Tan or Biege of the top frame... with the 1 following it (still left of center in line 1) denoting the conv top color of (white) Anybody with more input would be greatly appreciated!

Now right of center in line 1 is the (3) and I believe that to be the push button radio and the following (1) to be the 2 speed windshield wipers...correct me if I am wrong. Again, more input would be greatly appreciated!
Back to line 2... (what is the 4 directly below the S3 in line 1 ???? Damn this seems to be getting confusing! I have no way of posting pictures at this time graemlins/sad.gif Thanks DANO

LKN BCK, I think my POP tracks with Dales explanation above. My car has no power options and a tan top, with an AM push button radio. His expalantion seems to match my numbers.

Thanks Joeks, After finding Dales Protect-o- plate decoding page this morning... I have a better understanding of POPs.(Thanks again Dale)
It is likely the 4 in the second line of my POP is the power top graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Joeks, I do have a couple of questions about your interior and the C codes on our POPs
1- Is your interior paint... lower dash and upper doors saddle or car color sierra tan?
2- Is your upper dash padded or painted...and is it dark saddle?

One last question for anybody is...??? How and or what code determines what color the convertible top frames should be on a 65 Chevelle? Thanks DANO

1. under dash and top of door color is the same Sierra Tan as the ourside.

2. The dash pad is a darker brown, not quite cocolate.

I'll send a couple of pics.
