It's a good thing to have the Hurst as it is a superior shifter to the muncie. It shouldn't hit though. Odds are that one or more of the shift rods are in the wrong place. Each rod could fit 4 or more ways and only one is right. You'll need to find the Hurst shifter instructions and climb underneath and inspect them. I have to draw a picture and label mine when I remove them because they can be confusing. It's also possible the the shifter is rotated to the wrong position on it's mounting bracket. Does the shifter handle seem to be in the right position in the car? To far forward or back would point to the rotation problem.
