Deck # - CE162354
Cast # - 39689854
Date # - L 5 - 70
Block has a sideways T above Cast #

Can someone tell me what year or years this engine could have been a warranty replacement for?
Also, if it is a desirable block what could it be worth?
This engine is in a 66 Chevelle that I have had for over 20 years. It has less than 10,000 miles on a rebuild by a Napa machine shop in the late 80s and it is in good running condition.
Thanks, DANO

CE162354

CE - Chevrolet Engine
1 - Model made for is 1971
62354 was made at Tonawanda since they were assigned serial number range 50000 to 79999 this would the 12,354 engine they produced. Engines were given part numbers and not coded to any specific application because they did not know what it was going to be used for. It could be used in any car or truck, it was a replacement part. The part numbers assigned governed the rest of the info like CID, option code applications etc.

A December 1970 #854 block could NOT be correct for a 1966 396 car as a legitimate warranty engine......
